How conflict exacerbates Somalia's starvation
How much longer will the world let our children suffer like this? It's
unconceivable that we in the Western world can
sleep at night knowing that there are children starving and dying.
High court affirms gun rights in historic decision
The Supreme Court confirmed what the constitution has been telling us
for over 200 years. Americans have the right
to keep and bear arms. Or not. It's an individuals choice. And this
whole argument is about choice and control not about
guns.
Ireland: Sober reflection will cure treaty hangover
Ireland woke up last week and realized that they had stepped in doo-doo.
The exuberance of the "No" vote to the Lisbon
Treaty is having far reaching consequences for the Emerald Isle. Ireland
is slipping distressingly quickly into the black hole of recession, the
like of which hasn't been seen in the country for two decades. Ireland,
it is fair to say, needs the EU far more than the EU needs Ireland. The
black eye that Ireland gave the 480 million fellow Europeans may well be
responded to with silence when Ireland goes to Europe in the next
quarter with cap in hand again looking for loans to float the economy.
The other foot has yet to fall for Ireland in response to their
"independence" in voting. And that other foot could well be the loss the
unique preferred corporate tax status that they enjoy at the pleasure of
the EU. A status denied other members and given to Ireland as a means of
helping the economy grow. Ireland would well remember that when you kick
the tiger in the balls, you'd better know where it's teeth are.
